Abandoned As A Baby, Pierce Brosnan Met His Father Once

Former 007 star Pierce Brosnan trades his sleek suits for rugged cowboy boots in the western drama, The Son. Brosnan plays the brutal Eli McCullough, the head of a cattle business in Texas, looking to expand into the oil industry. At the core of the 10-episode series is the relationship between Eli and his son Pete, who opposes Eli’s savage business tactics.

“He’s a man who’s lost three families by the time we meet him. He likes people, but he’s born of violence and war and goes on to create an empire,” the 63-year-old actor describes his character’s motivations.

Brosnan also shares with Esquire about tapping into the psyche of a father for the show: “My fatherly instincts are purely my own. They relate back to no one, because there was no one.”

He later reveals that his father left him when he was a baby. Brosnan recalls meeting him once years later as an adult. “I had a Sunday afternoon with him. A story about this and that, had a few pints of Guinness, and we said goodbye.” He adds: “I would have loved to have known him. He was a good whistler and he had a good walk … That’s as much as I know about him.”

The Son airs every Wednesday at 11pm on FX HD (Astro Ch 726).
