Hong Kong megastar Andy Lau says he will be bringing his concert tour to Malaysia, but the dates have yet to be confirmed.

Lau will be kicking off his My Love Andy Lau World Tour 2018/2019 with 20 shows at Hong Kong Coliseum, from Dec 15 to Jan 3, 2019. Early next year, he will be taking his tour to several cities in China as well.

It has been eight years since Lau, who turns 57 on Sept 27, last held a solo concert, so fans have understandably been very excited about getting their hands on the tickets to his show.

On Aug 26, a fan of Lau’s was stabbed by two men while waiting to purchase concert tickets in Hong Kong. The 58-year-old fan from mainland China was second in line and had been queuing up for almost two weeks. Police have arrested four men to assist in investigations, and box office counter sales were cancelled to prevent further incidents.

Hours after the incident, Lau – who is well-known for his affection for his supporters – posted a 77-second video on Facebook to remind fans to be careful and stay safe.

Also, online ticket sales – which began on Sep 4 – met with some technical issues when the systems were jammed due to heavy traffic. All 60,000 tickets were snapped up eventually on the same day. Fans have turned to other outlets to get hold of the tickets.

Prices for the concert tickets originally ranged from HK$380 (RM200) to HK$980 (RM517), but were being traded for prices ranging from HK$2,668 (RM1,408) to HK$38,800 (RM20,483) on online resale platforms.

With that, Lau worked with Hong Kong Police to warn fans against being cheated by scammers and scalpers.

In the video, which has been uploaded twice on several Hong Kong Police social media platforms, Lau advised fan to only make purchase via proper channels.

Lau was recently in Kuala Lumpur to join in the celebratory party for the box office success of Malaysian movie Hantu Kak Limah (HKL). The movie, which has raked in RM36mil, is currently the highest-grossing local film.

As one of the investors of the Malay-language horror comedy Lau helped to hand out lucky draw prizes and bonuses to 82 members of the cast and crew of HKL.

Making a brief appearance on stage during the party, Lau exclaimed: “We are looking forward to working with you guys again, again and again”.

Flushed with the record-breaking success of HKL, Lau says he is also open to investing in Chinese-language Malaysian films.

Upcoming movies starring the singer-actor include Find Your Voice and sequel movies Shock Wave 2 and The White Storm 2: Drug Lords.
