Higher Q3 earnings for Unisem, dividend 3.5 sen – Business News

KUALA LUMPUR: Unisem (M) Bhd ‘s earnings rose 4.7% to RM40.44mil in the third month ended Sept 30, 2017 due to higher sales, improved average selling prices and the appreciation of the US dollar against the ringgit.

The semiconductor-related company said on Wednesday the earnings improved from the RM38.63mil a year ago. It declared an interim dividend of 3.5 sen a share.

Its revenue rose at a stronger pace of 18.8% to RM382.32mil from RM321.95mil. Earnings per share were 5.51 sen compared with 5.26 sen a year ago.

For the nine months, its earnings rose 14.9% to RM127.44mil from RM110.95mil. Its revenue increased increased by 15.4% to RM1.11bil from RM960.65mil.

“The increase in revenue and net profits for the current quarter and financial year to date was attributable to higher sales, improved average selling prices and the appreciation of US$/ringgit exchange rate as compared to the prevailing rate in the corresponding quarter/period a year ago,” it said.

Unisem said all segments recorded increase in revenue with the US segment recording the strongest improvement of 30.6% whilst Europe and Asia segments increased by 6.5% and 5.1% respectively.
