K-Pop Fans Told To Stop Sending Mail To The Army For G-Dragon

North Korean strongman Kim Jong-un is a threat, but the South Korean army now has another fight on its hands – coping with the fan mail for K-pop stars fulfilling their mandatory military service.

After G-Dragon of Big Bang enlisted last month, the military training centre he is in has been bombarded with fan mail, leading to the singer-rapper’s agency, YG Entertainment, to issue a ceasefire plea over the weekend.

“G-Dragon is in a difficult position within his military unit as the amount of incoming mail from fans is excessive,” its statement read.

According to YG, every e-mail sent to the military division has to be printed out and handed over to the soldier. But the number of letters sent to G-Dragon is depleting the office’s supply of ink and paper. Other soldiers are getting “hurt” in the process as they are not able to receive their letters.

“G-Dragon feels sorry to fellow training soldiers and also his fans, as he cannot possibly read all the letters,” YG added.

The pressure facing the army looks set to intensify with another two Big Bang members, Taeyang and Daesung, beginning their military service yesterday and today respectively. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
