SERI ISKANDAR: A 27-year-old police constable has been detained for allegedly molesting a university student and extorting money from the woman and her boyfriend.
This follows a report by the couple, who claimed that the incident happened at about 12pm on Sunday (Feb 11).
Perak Tengah OCPD Supt Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the suspect, who was off-duty at the time, saw the couple engaging in “suspicious” behaviour in their car along Jalan Parit-Seri Iskandar.
“The suspect exposed their wrongdoing and said he will have to bring them to the nearest police station. Instead, he brought them to a restaurant and asked them to pay him RM700 within two weeks if the victims did not want their case to be reported,” he said.
Supt Mohamad Zainal told a press conference here on Monday (Feb 12) that the suspect allegedly asked the boyfriend to head home first and he would drop the girlfriend off later.
“The girlfriend claimed that the suspect took her for a car ride in his car around the town and touched her private parts,” he said.
After the victims were reunited, Supt Mohamad Zainal said they headed back to their home in Kuala Kangsar and lodged a report there.
Supt Mohamad Zainal said that investigations have shown that the suspect has been serving at the Parit police station for two years.
“I want to stress that we take such allegations seriously and we will not delay investigations to protect any policeman or officer. We will haul them to court if they are found to be guilty of any wrongdoing,” he said.
The suspect has been remanded for four days starting Monday (Feb 12) to assist in investigations under Section 354 of the Penal Code for using criminal force on a person with intent to outrage modesty and Section 385 of the same Code for putting a person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion.
