Cruise holidaygoers can now set sail on the SuperStar Gemini from Selangor. The Star Cruises ship recently celebrated its arrival and inaugural homeport deployment in Port Klang.
The arrival of SuperStar Gemini marks the start of her residency until April 28 next year, with additional options to embark from Penang and Langkawi, Kedah.
Genting Cruise Lines senior vice president (international sales) Michael Goh said the arrival of SuperStar Gemini in the waters of Selangor is a homecoming of sorts.
“We are thrilled to be back in Port Klang, where we started Star Cruises. Our history goes back to 1995,” he said during the welcome ceremony at the port. Star Cruises is a member of Genting Cruise Lines.
Cruise tourism, according to Goh, is one of Asia’s growing markets in the travel industry.
“Genting Cruise Lines continues to see great potential in Malaysia and remains highly committed in supporting the industry,” he said. Goh added that there is a good international flight connection for cruisers departing from Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Langkawi.
Last year, Malaysia received 599 cruise calls, an increase of 37.8% compared to 435 cruise calls in 2016. In terms of cruise passengers, Malaysia recorded 924,885, an increase of 35.6% from 2016.
Currently, there are a total of 12 ports of call to accommodate the needs of cruise ship arrivals.
The deployment of SuperStar Gemini will carry on the legacy of the SuperStar Libra that retired from active duty in June this year.
The 13-storey SuperStar Gemini offers 765 cabins with 1,530 lower berths. Facilities include 11 restaurants and bars, a spacious shopping area, well-equipped health club, spa, beauty salon, duty-free shopping and more.
For Muslim guests, there are plans to incorporate halal galleys for food preparation in the near future.
In addition to the amenities, guests will be entertained by a range of onboard performances and entertainment.
The suites and staterooms offer some respite after an activity-filled day. Executive Suites provide the comfort of a queen-sized bed with a living room. The Oceanview Stateroom looks out to stunning views of the sea.
Guests will have a variety of popular round-trip cruise itineraries to choose from.
These include the 4D3N Phuket/Langkawi cruise or the 4D3N Phuket/Penang cruise, as well as 5D4N Phuket/Krabi/Penang cruise (departing Feb 6, next year) and 3D2N Singapore.
